A testament to teamwork, innovation, and commitment to the highest standards of concrete production

At this year’s Concrete NZ Conference and Awards, Holcim New Zealand proudly showcased our commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation, achieving multiple honours that highlight our leadership within the concrete industry.

Recognising Excellence

The Plant Audit Scheme

The Concrete NZ Plant Audit Scheme, which independently audits around 200 ready-mix concrete plants across New Zealand, acknowledges performance through Gold, Silver, and Bronze recognition levels. Achieving Gold status for ten consecutive years or more signifies the highest standard of operational excellence - something our teams consistently strive for and maintain.

Producer Technical Excellence Award

We also took home the Producer Technical Excellence Award for our work on the Puketapu Bridge project.

Following the devastation of Cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023, the two-lane Puketapu Bridge was rebuilt to reconnect communities and restore vital transport links. Holcim supplied more than 1,000 m³ of specialised low-heat, durable concrete, developed through extensive pre-pour trials to ensure long-term resilience and structural integrity.

Judges praised both companies for their technical skill and innovation, recognising our ability to deliver customised mixes for the bridge deck, abutments, and deep piles, restoring critical infrastructure with durability and sustainability at its core.

Dave Barker, General Manager – Ready-Mix Concrete New Zealand, proudly accepted the award on behalf of the company.

Holcim’s customised concrete mix helped restore the two-lane Puketapu Bridge, strengthening vital transport links in Hawke’s Bay.

This award is a testament to the expertise and dedication of our people. Every mix we design and every pour we deliver reflects our passion for doing things the right way; safely, sustainably, and with excellence. We’re honoured to see our commitment recognised at a national level.

About the Plant Audit Scheme

The Plant Audit Scheme, administered by Concrete NZ, independently verifies that ready-mix concrete plants meet the strict requirements of NZS 3104 – Concrete Production. It ensures each plant has qualified staff, rigorous quality-control systems, and ongoing testing procedures.

The scheme offers specifiers a reliable, cost-effective way to confirm concrete quality without needing individual project-based audits. Plants demonstrating sustained excellence are recognised with tiered awards:

  • Bronze: 3 years of continuous “Excellence”
  • Silver: 5 years of continuous “Excellence”
  • Gold: 10 years of continuous “Excellence”

These distinctions celebrate the consistent performance and quality systems that define leading producers like Holcim New Zealand.
