Delivering a new era for Auckland speedway

Holcim and Slipform NZ team up for Waikaraka Park Speedway transformation

In a complex paving project demanding precision, durability, and a purpose-designed mix, Holcim’s Auckland ready-mix concrete team has partnered with Slipform NZ to deliver the concrete barrier structure forming the backbone of the Waikaraka Park Speedway redevelopment.

The Waikaraka Park redevelopment marks an exciting step forward for motorsport in Auckland, following the relocation of speedway events from Western Springs to the upgraded Waikaraka venue. The NZD 11 million upgrade will enhance safety, pit capacity, lighting, and spectator facilities, positioning the park to host larger and more prestigious events.

“This project demanded precision and speed,” says Kane Barry from Slipform NZ. “Holcim’s mix made it consistent and easy to work with, allowing us to slipform the barriers exactly to spec, every time. It’s been a big difference to both productivity and the finish quality on site.”

“It’s been a great collaboration with Slipform NZ,” adds Steve Urquhart, Holcim’s National Sales & Marketing Manager - Ready-mix Concrete. “From early mix design testing to on-site delivery and feedback, the teamwork between our technical and operations teams has ensured the right performance from the first pour. It’s been great to see our product performing so well on such a high-profile project.”

Essential works are set for completion before racing resumes for the 2025/26 season beginning in November 2025.
