Holcim Expands Operations with Mercer Sand Quarry Acquisition

Global sustainable construction materials leader Holcim has acquired Mercer Sand Quarry, in another strategic move to bolster the company's growth in the aggregates sector and service capabilities in the Auckland and Waikato markets.

With the imminent expansion of ready-mix concrete operations across the North Island, Mercer Sand Quarry, represents a significant addition to the company’s resources. With a dredging depth of up to 18 metres, this 20-hectare site offers a high-grade sand resource and a range of other products. The quarry produces tailored sand grades to meet customer needs, including concrete sand and essential general quarry products.

Commenting on the customer benefits of the acquisition, Kevin Larcombe, Executive General Manager of Holcim New Zealand said: “We are thrilled to welcome Mercer Sand Limited into Holcim and bring our quality services and products to the Auckland and Waikato regions, creating new opportunities for our customers.”

“Furthermore, as part of our commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement, at the quarry’s end of life we plan to transform the site into a recreational lake in partnership with Anya and Ashley Thomas as the landowners. Prior to the completion of our lease, we will collaborate with the local iwi and the communities we serve.”
