Our Scope

Our Auckland laboratory operates to ISO/IEC 17025:2017, the international standard for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Testing is carried out under accreditation number 307, held continuously since 25 November 1986.

Our scope covers:

Cement and pozzolanic materials, tested to AS/NZS 2350 and AS 2350 standards, including:

  • Sampling
  • Normal consistency
  • Setting time
  • Soundness
  • Fineness by the 45 micrometre sieve and by air permeability
  • Compressive strength
  • False set (NZS 3122)

Concrete, tested to NZS 3112 standards, including:

  • Sampling of freshly mixed concrete
  • Density of fresh and hardened concrete
  • Slump
  • Air content
  • Moulding, curing and capping of test cylinders
  • Compressive strength of moulded cylinders

Frequently asked questions

Technical Testing FAQs

What is IANZ accreditation?

International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) is New Zealand's national accreditation body. IANZ-accredited laboratories are independently assessed against ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard covering technical competence, equipment calibration and quality management, so customers can rely on the accuracy of test results.

What concrete and cement tests does Holcim New Zealand perform?

Our Auckland laboratory tests fresh and hardened concrete properties such as slump, air content, density and compressive strength, alongside cement and pozzolanic material properties including setting time, soundness, fineness and compressive strength. All tests are carried out to the relevant AS, AS/NZS or NZS standards.

Why does accredited testing matter for my project?

Accredited test results give builders, engineers and specifiers confidence that concrete and cement supplied meet the specified mix design and relevant New Zealand standards, supporting compliance and quality assurance from the ground up.

How long has Holcim's lab been accredited?

Our Auckland laboratory has held continuous IANZ accreditation since 1986, one of the longest-standing accreditations of its kind in the New Zealand construction materials industry.
