In 2012 Holcim New Zealand introduced employee volunteering as part of the global Holcim Centennial celebrations to engage 80,000 employees worldwide to work one day for the community. Although many group companies already have programmes in place this was an opportunity to implement volunteering throughout all Holcim companies with the central theme for the Centennial year, ‘Together for Communities’.
Under the Employee Volunteer Programme, there is flexibility for sites to work with local partners, as long as it fits within our overall criteria.
Local community projects that have benefitted from our Employee Volunteer Programme include:
- Department of Conservation, 80km Timber Trail Cycle track between Pureora and Ongarue, Waikato.
- The Yellow Eyed Penguin Trust at Tavora Reserve, East Otago.
- Addington Action a volunteer group to help households affected by earthquakes in Christchurch
- Hamilton Zoo who rely on volunteers to be able to continue to operate.
